Free Services

Computer/Internet Access ^ There are terminals located throughout the Reference and Children's Departments. To use the computers you must present a valid North Bergen Public library card or state-issued ID. The library not only offers free Internet access, but Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher & PowerPoint). The library also offers free WiFi. The library also offers a state of the art computer lab for all adult library cardholders.

Inter-Library Loans ^ As a member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) North Bergen residents can request for books to be sent from one of the other 73 BCCLS libraries. For more information visit or call the Reference Desk (201)-869-4715.

Reciprocal Borrowing ^ Patrons with a valid North Bergen Library card are allowed to check out or return materials at any of the BCCLS libraries.

You may use your North Bergen Public Library card for in-person borrowing at 150+ participating libraries in Morris, Passaic, Middlesex, Sussex and Warren counties through the Open Borrowing program. Obtain a green open borrowing sticker from the North Bergen Public Library before visiting these out-of-county libraries.

Proctoring Services ^ The North Bergen Public Library staff will serve as proctors for exams taken by distance learners residing in North Bergen within the following guidelines: Proctoring is a free service. A minimum of one-week advance notice is required. All test taking requirements must be received from the issuing educational institution before any tests are taken. Although all efforts will be made to proctor exams as scheduled, tests may need to be rescheduled if staff members are not available Exams will be scheduled during normal library hours of service when a staff member is available to proctor the exam. Proctoring consists of: Checking identification of student taking the exam. All personal items, such as bookbags, cell phones, laptops, etc. will be left in a secure setting with a staff member. Noting the time that an exam was started and completed in the library. Signing the required school supplied documentation. Student Responsibilities: It is the student’s responsibility to confirm that this proctoring policy meets the requirements of the institution giving the examination. The service must not involve any direct cost to the Library. Students or the administering institution will be responsible for providing postage and any other expenses incurred. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the library’s computing resources are adequate for their test taking requirements.

Scanning ^ All copy machines located within the library have scanning capabilities, free of charge. The KIC Public Scanner enables you to scan documents at high speed, without damage, and save them in a variety of electronic formats. The KIC kiosk (located in the Reference Department) is a walk-up color digitization scanning system for excerpts from books and other materials. Patrons can save their scan jobs to their USB flash drive or e-mail them directly to the account of your choosing.

Fee-Based Services

Copy Machines ^ There are three copy machines located throughout the library. Copying can be done on 8 1/2" x 11" or 8 1/2" x 14" paper at $0.15/page (b&w) and $0.50/page (color).

Computer Printouts ^ Black and white printing is available from all computer terminals for $0.15/page. Color printing is $0.50/page.

Although the computers do not have floppy disks, if you need to use one please visit the Reference Desk. We have a USB Portable Floppy Drive available for use.

Fax Machine ^ Rates are $1.00/page when sending to a toll free or local exchange. Other area codes cost $2.00 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page. To send an international fax, the charge is $3.00 for the first page and $2.00 for each additional page.

Large Format Printing ^ The library now offers Large Format Printing

There is a charge of $6.00 per square ft. for all projects (max width of 40 inches).
All files must be saved on a portable storage device.
All projects will be printed on glossy photographic paper.
Please make sure that the file you are printing is of the best quality possible to insure a clear print.
Please contact the library beforehand in order to verify that your project can be completed on the day specified.
